Where are Texans moving to? No matter what their reasons, people are moving into and out of Texas every day. We hear a lot about where people are coming from when they move to Texas, but where are the people leaving heading to? Let’s take a look at the data and find out.

After some research, I discovered that there are three major destinations for Texans moving out of state. Contrary to popular belief, Colorado isn’t in the top three. Let’s dive into the details.

In the number one position, we have California. Despite the perception that Californians are flooding into North Texas, tons of Texans are actually moving to California as well. No one knows why this is for sure, but it looks like this trend is going to continue.

“If a certain party wins the nomination or presidential campaign, will I leave the United States?”

The second spot goes to Florida. We nearly exchanged an equal number of residents with the Sunshine State. Texas sent 38,000 people to Florida, while Florida sent 31,000 people to us, creating a balanced flow of residents between the two states.

Oklahoma claims the third position, with 26,000 Texans relocating there last year. Interestingly, the highest amount of adjusted gross income (AGI) leaving Texas didn’t head to California but to Florida. It seems many Texans are moving to Florida for its retirement communities, making it the top destination for higher-income residents.
